As it is with most of the successful things we’ve done at Saskatoon, it wasn’t my own.  

We were celebrating this past Fourth of July with our own version of a Hot Dog eating contest.

One of the contestants said to me, “All Beef franks?  I thought we’d be eating wild game hot dogs!”

That lightbulb flickered in the back of my head… Wild Game Hot Dogs…

Why hadn’t I thought of that?

For decades we’ve been serving different Wild Game sausages at our Lodge Restaurant…

Some of the customer favorites have been:

• Smoked Bison Chipotle

• Smoked Elk Bratwurst with Cheddar & Jalapeno

• Smoked Wild Boar with Cranberry

With so many of our customers telling us how delicious these wild game sausages are, we decided to evolve the American treasure of the hot dog into the Wild Game Hot Dog.

Until you’ve tried the difference for yourself, there is no comparison.

Wild game meat has a richer and more intense flavor than domesticated meat (the same way grass fed beef is more flavorful than grain fed).

For example, the rich and sweet flavor of buffalo bears a surprisingly strong resemblance to an extravagant cut of dry aged beef.  

And alongside that incredible taste, wild game is also one of the healthiest kinds of meat as it is very low in fat and cholesterol.  The leanness coming from the fact that they are wild and walk and roam freely.   

You get a taste that’s unsurpassed…and health benefits alongside. 

That’s a combination that’s hard to beat.

Thus, the creation of Lodge Dogs: Wild Game Brats.
